I found myself inspired by the work of Lindsay Adler during a recent session…
…which I suppose isn’t uncommon, except that I chose to actually run with it this time (*gasp*).
Lindsay shot a series a little while back, “Seeing Red”, that featured dominant red tones through out. I remember browsing images in Google, and any time one of that series would appear it would stop me in my tracks. Amazing work, so vibrant, not a single image didn’t stand out. In truth, I remember it being my introduction to her work.
Coincidentally; Lorrie arrived at my North Bay studio having done some shopping on my behalf (she’s a good friend). I had asked her to grab me some seamless paper while it was on sale, because the cost to ship it is insane in Canada, and she was travelling through already. One of those rolls just happened to be a vibrant red.
And she arrived with a little red dress that she of course looked absolutely stunning in… a happy accident.
I’ve been talking a lot about advancing my portrait proficiency. I’ve spoken about having taken time over the holidays to learn from the available workshops of Sue Bryce, Felix Kunze, and of course Lindsay herself. I saw this as an opportunity to combine everything I had learned from each of them, and hopefully put together a solid first session of the new year.
I know I’m a little bias, but I think we killed it. Lorrie, as always, was amazing to work with (she really has become a bit of a muse for me)… and I personally love the photos we captured together.
There’s a lot I want to keep working on as I move forward, “never stop pushing” right?
But for my first attempt at this style of posing, lighting, everything… a style that’s way outside my comfort zone… this session really made me confident in my abilities going forward.
Let me know what you think!
